Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

Cinnamon Roll Dough:

1 cup milk

1 Tbsp active dry yeast

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Cinnamon Roll Filling:

1 cup light brown sugar, packed

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Sweetened milk:

1/4 cup milk

1 Tbsp maple syrup

Icing:

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1 tsp milk

1 tsp vanilla extract


Directions

1. Heat the milk in a saucepan until just steaming, careful to not let simmer as milk that is too hot can kill the yeast.

2. Remove from the heat, add the yeast, stir, and let sit for 5 minutes.

3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

4. When the yeast mixture is foamy, add to the flour mixture along with the melted butter. Mix together.

5. Kneed for 3-4 minutes, adding flour as needed.

6. Place dough in a medium bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for one hour.

7. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

8. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and roll into a 1/2 cm thick rectangle of 30 x 40 cm.

9. Spread the softened butter across the rolled-out dough.

10. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly overtop the rolled-out dough.

11. With the longest edge of the rectangular dough closest to you, begin to roll the dough.

12. Cut the rolled dough into 12 sections with a serrated bread knife.

13. Place each section into the baking dish, cover with a damp cloth and let rest in a warm place for another hour.

14. While the rolls are resting, mix the remaining milk with maple syrup. Set aside.

15. Preheat oven to 350F.

16. Bake rolls on center rack for 10 minutes then remove from oven to spoon the sweetened milk mixture overtop.

17. Return the cinnamon rolls back to the oven to bake for an additional 20 - 25 minutes, or until the tops of the buns are golden.

18. While rolls are baking, whisk together the icing ingredients using.

19. When the rolls are removed from the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the icing overtop. Enjoy!
